What advice would you give to your past self when you were just starting your research journey?
For those who find themselves unsure or hesitant to get into research, don’t worry, many people are in the same situation. However, just remember that research is a fundamental part not only of academics but life, and you do it much more often than you’d think! In our digital age, you do research all the time, from things as basic as which restaurants to eat at or which car dealership gives the best deal, to more complicated things like what doctor has the highest quality of care, how to invest money, and even more! Thus, it is important to develop good research skills to help navigate inevitable questions in life. Academic research is a great way to set yourself up to be an effective investigator of information, as using your best judgment, finding reliable sources, and interpreting the answers you find are all things we do for all sorts of activities.
