What advice would you give to your past self when you were just starting your research journey?
Don’t be intimidated! My past self was very anxious and had low self-confidence about my abilities to work on a research project. I would tell her that this is a great opportunity for growth, and that even the most successful people have to start at the bottom. No one starts off already being perfect, so don’t expect yourself to be! Be patient and give yourself grace so that you can make the most out of your experiences. There are a lot of folks who will support you, so as long as you are challenging yourself and doing something you’re passionate about, you’ll be fine! Even if the experience is negative, you would have still learned something in the end.
