Call for Fall Proposals

Eligibility Requirements:
- Current UCI undergraduate student through at least winter quarter 2022
- Good academic standing
- UCI Faculty Mentor guidance
- Limited to one individual funding request per cycle (can also participate in group funded proposal and/or submit for an additional honorary fellowship)

Call for Spring Proposals
Students are encouraged to explore faculty mentored research and apply for recognition and/or funding by submitting a proposal during the spring. Students may apply for an honorary award, or request funding to support their research. Funded awards are intended for use of project supplies and expenses and typically range from $250 – $1,000 per individual project, with higher amounts of up to $2,500 available for group projects. These awards are for research being carried out for up to one year (spring 2022 through spring 2023).

Call for Summer Proposals
The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is a research fellowship for UCI undergraduate students. It is aimed at students with some prior research experience who plan to continue an intensive, faculty mentored research experience over the summer. The fellowships are typically for 10 weeks, with a commitment of 20 hours per week. However, the total time commitment is flexible and should be appropriate for the proposed project. The award amounts are flexible and dependent on student need and the time commitment of the project. They are capped at $3,000, with an average award of $1,500.

Call for NEW Graduate Student Summer Proposals
UROP is providing a special, one-time call to assist graduate students whose research has been delayed due to COVID. This is a unique opportunity for graduate students to form a team of up to 4 undergraduate students who have some prior research experience to continue an intensive, graduate student mentored research experience over the summer. The fellowships are typically for 10 weeks, with a commitment of 20 hours per week. However, the total time commitment is flexible and should be appropriate for the proposed project. Graduate student awards are $5,000 and undergraduate awards are $1,500.

This is a team award, consisting of 1 graduate student and up to 4 undergraduate students per team.
Important Note: Some Schools/departments may modify existing funding if a graduate student is selected for this Fellowship. Graduate students should contact their department for additional information, as well as discuss their plans with their Faculty Advisor prior to submitting a proposal.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Current UCI graduate student through at least fall quarter 2022
- Current UCI undergraduate student (graduating seniors are eligible)
- Good academic standing
- Graduate student-mentored research
- Undergraduates: some prior research experience recommended: preferably at least one quarter working on a research project at UCI
- Limited to one award per summer. Undergraduates can receive this award or a SURP award, but not both.
- Preference may be given to Graduate students who have completed the Mentoring Excellence Program (recommended, but not required)
